well in simple words:
the host has to put up a giveaway thread as usual, the user just has to click on a button to participate. thats it. no more replies and all promotional nonsense.

Lottery is something official. Giveaway section deserves some attention so i would suggest adding a small edit to existing "draw winner" system where

1. OP (thread started) can select for how many days giveaway can run (1 to 14)
2. How many winners will be selected
3. Who can participate (all or just upgraded users)
4. Posting mentions would be turned off (unless user wants to click in usercp -> alerts settings and enable that )
5. OP (once the giveaway has expired) can select winners

If you want to know if you replied to a thread or not.
Just hover you mouse to the image beside the thread title.
If you replied it will show "Contains posts by you. New posts. Hot thread."
If you did not it will show "New posts. Hot thread."
