I don't think it would be difficult to create real-time notifications for users using JavaScript, as it can be quite tedious to constantly hit the F5 button, especially when hanging out in the shoutbox and waiting for a response to a PM or reply for a couple of hours.I'm not sure why this feature doesn't exist yet, but it's definitely something I could get on board with.
It would be great to have small popups appear in the bottom right corner whenever one of the alerts occurs.I can also imagine that if this feature is accompanied by a good sound, it could trigger a release of dopamine in some people, which could further increase their participation in the forum and ultimately boost the forum's activity.
